Just do what you can, as you see from my film even a crazy quad like me in my power chair I film my world as I roll around. I am in a manual chair more I would not let them buy me a power chair till my 5th year of my injury untill I said to myself I could get more place faster and easier under power and can even go get a coffee and not have to sit and drink it at the coffee shop if I added a cup holder to a power chair. Next came a camera mount and a digital camera and now I film in HD with my new kodak camcorder now I am wheelchair cam and never know where I will film. By the the way I broke my neck by getting hit in the head when working as a machinary mover they figured the blow had the force of 300lbs. My last name is Pelletier that is a french name every one should know you can not kill a frenchman by hitting them in the head, thick headed french men you know. LOL my humor took me a long way, you need it to take you though a broken neck. Depression only slows one down life goes on no matter what. I was telling jokes in the ICU ward even before they pulled the breathing tube, by the grace of god on the window sill of the hospital room I was in there was a clear plastic board with the whole alphabet in red stickers on it. The bed they had me in turned my body and I seen it. After they pulled a bunch of tubes off my right arm I kept pointing to the window. They would pick up the get well cards and flowers and I would keep trying to point to the board with my my hand then I could my move my fingers at all. Till one of my nurses picked up the board and took it over to my bed. I did my best to spell out words. For a few weeks before it I could hear the doctors tell my mom I might have brain damage from the blow to the head. The first thing I tryed to spell out was I understand everything they were saying. Then I ask for a mirror and seen my halo after seeing it I asked for a nurse to call my mom and tell her I loved her and stop crying when she came I was alive and will live past my injury. Then I told them stop saying brain damage, by day three I was telling jokes. The six days with the breathing tube in my seemed like months. When they pulled the tube all four of the nurse that worked on me was there plus a speech theraphist. One nurse said it will be nice to hear my voice, I said with a very raspy voice "you'll be sorry" because I love to talk. Oh by the way I was telling dirty jokes too. I am a c-7 incomplete quadriplegic, my arms work fine but very weak fingers with in a year and a half I was in my own apartment. Be proud of anything you can do no matter how you do it, human will is the strongest power around, live life knowing that the glass is half full not empty. I was down in acute rehab, it was hard, one day I said no I am not going to do go to the rehab gym lay in my bed saying send me to a nursing home, that same day was 9-11-01. I seen my tv switch to a news story and seen an airplane fly in to the first of the twin towers and then the next one. At that point my whole life turned around, I am alive, I had a bad day at work, but THE PEOPLE IN THE TOWERS WERE JUMPING OUT OF THE TOP FLOORS. I from the point on pushed myself to make the most out of my life for them. I WAS ALIVE. I hope in some way this story makes you feel the same way. Now I go speak to the newly injuried when asked, and tell the life will be tough but do not give up. Life goes on.....................make the most of it. See that smile on my face. Peace and love Gary
