    Argentina - Style and Passion...

Not a destination I had really considered before but when asked by my friend Jane Campbell, a GB Paralympic table tennis prospect, if I would coach her in two Argentine tournaments in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata(a coastal resort about 250 miles away), it was an opportunity too good to pass up. While the table tennis took up quite a bit of our time, we had some time to explore Bs As which was excellent. It really is a very stylish capital city with beautiful architecture, naturally a strong Spanish influence with reminders of the influence of Italian, French and other european immigrants, nicely fused with a warm native South American twist. The sensual rhythm of the tango ouzes from the side streets.

Early November, their spring is a lovely time to go - typically around 23 degrees during the day. While not a cheap holiday flight, once there everything you need is relatively inexpensive - eating out (can be superb too!), taxi's - we hired for half a day at a time (about £20 - £25). Accommodation - the centre can be "expensive" (about £100 for 5*) but shop around or go into the suburbs for luxury and service at Travelodge prices.   We found the local people really warm, and very helpful - if you needed assistance they were often there before you even turned around to ask. There are a few pics in my blog and general albums.

The Table tennis went pretty well too - amongst others, Jane beat three of the world's top players gaining bronze and silver medals and of course picked up some useful paralympic ranking points.

    Hello

    Tuesday, September 25, 2007, 08:11 AM [General]

Just heard about this site the other evening from a friend of Grant's. I think it's a great idea to be able to share experiences, make friends and to be able to find stuff that's useful.

I like to travel but unless you've been to a place before, there is often the element of doubt about access, facilities, etc. and while this can add to the overall adventure, it can also be a pain. If this thing takes off world-wide we can all help each other out.

I have been a wheelchair user for 31 years so am getting used to it.  I know people will laugh at my un-trendy trolley which I'm sure looks almost as old as that. I don't care.

Since office relocation made me redundant 12 years ago, I work from home as an independent medical and travel insurance broker.

I keep reasonably fit & am lucky to live in a lovely part of the world; the New Forest and local coastline are inspirational places to enjoy excersise. I play table tennis in the local leagues and occasionally go to the odd international tournament (combined with a look at the place of course). I love to enjoy good company, good food and wine. Life's pretty good.
