Not a destination I had really considered before but when asked by my friend Jane Campbell, a GB Paralympic table tennis prospect, if I would coach her in two Argentine tournaments in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata(a coastal resort about 250 miles away), it was an opportunity too good to pass up. While the table tennis took up quite a bit of our time, we had some time to explore Bs As which was excellent. It really is a very stylish capital city with beautiful architecture, naturally a strong Spanish influence with reminders of the influence of Italian, French and other european immigrants, nicely fused with a warm native South American twist. The sensual rhythm of the tango ouzes from the side streets.
Early November, their spring is a lovely time to go - typically around 23 degrees during the day. While not a cheap holiday flight, once there everything you need is relatively inexpensive - eating out (can be superb too!), taxi's - we hired for half a day at a time (about £20 - £25). Accommodation - the centre can be "expensive" (about £100 for 5*) but shop around or go into the suburbs for luxury and service at Travelodge prices. We found the local people really warm, and very helpful - if you needed assistance they were often there before you even turned around to ask. There are a few pics in my blog and general albums.
The Table tennis went pretty well too - amongst others, Jane beat three of the world's top players gaining bronze and silver medals and of course picked up some useful paralympic ranking points.
